Services

I firmly believe that people have the potential to understand themselves and resolve their own issues and see my role as providing a safe, non-judgemental space where self-exploration can take place. We will work together to identify and explore the challenges you face and find new and better ways to deal with difficult feelings and emotions. There is no ‘one size fits all’ in therapy, as all experiences are unique to each individual, so we will work together to find the approach that best suits your needs.

At Anne Rooney Counselling and Psychotherapy Sligo, your therapy might involve:

• Learning to sit with and process difficult emotions, rather than pushing them away

• Recognising the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour

• Recognising repeated patterns of behaviour and finding ways to change them

• Identifying negative thought patterns and changing them to more healthy ways of thinking

• Understanding the link between past and present experiences

• Learning to recognise bodily sensations and the message they might be conveying

• Developing a better understanding of yourself and developing self-compassion.

Maternal Mental Health

Conception, pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood can be a very challenging period for women when their experience is not what they had expected and does not fit the social ideals. Some women mourn the loss of the life they had before or worry if they don’t immediately bond with their baby. Some women experience difficulties in childbirth, while for others conception can be a long and difficult journey that may not result in the outcome hoped for. While these issues, and more besides, are very common, women still find it difficult to talk about their maternal experiences. When women do find the courage to seek support there is often relief in the knowledge that they are not alone.

I will provide you with the space to explore these difficult and often conflicting feelings.

I have supported women, and their partners with:

  • Perinatal depression
  • Miscarriage
  • Still birth
  • Traumatic birth
  • Conception and fertility issues
  • Transition to motherhood
